Contract Quality Assurance Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Be an equal partner with the development team throughout the entire SDLC to assure functional integrity.
  • Write and maintain test plans and test cases based on reviews of functional specifications.
  • Coordinate, develop and execute test cases.
  • Identify and report defects with reproducible steps, and manage defect tracking and defect reports.
  • Work closely with engineering and management to prioritize defects, assist in the timely resolution of defects and verify defect fixes.
  • Work directly with engineers and project management to obtain product information.
  • Work with engineers to define the scope and coverage of the test effort.
  • Create and maintain test data sets using internally-developed tools.
  • Review technical documentation (user manuals, release notes, readmes) to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and adherence to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style.
  • Communicate QE project status and escalate blocking issues to management.
  • Provide feedback for improving QE procedures, standards and methodologies.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years experience as a QA Engineer in a web-based software development environment.
  • Experience with manual testing and some automation experience (preferably Java or Perl).
  • Experience using functional and automation testing tools; QuickTest Pro is preferred.
  • Experience with defect tracking systems and source control applications.
  • Experience with Linux environments and relational databases; MySQL is preferred.
  • Experience with web servers, and testing web applications.
  • Ability to program basic automation tasks using Shell, Perl scripts or other scripting mechanisms.
  • Experience testing new software products with limited product documentation.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently and quickly learn complex material.
  • Willingness to participate in an iterative development process.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines, with minimal supervision, to deliver high-quality products.
  • Flexibility and experience working in a startup environment.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • BS Degree in CS or equivalent.
