Concerns Are Mounting Over New Pediatric Inflammatory Syndrome

A new condition believed to be linked to Covid-19—called pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome—has been reported in at least 50 children in European countries, including Italy, France, Switzerland, Spain and the U.K. In the U.S., there have been more than 100 reported cases and three deaths in New York state, and additional cases reported in other states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, and California, according to the New York Times

A recent poll of 480+ Sermo physicians revealed that 79% believe we should be more concerned about the effects of Covid-19 on children than previously thought. We are in the very early stages of understanding PMIS, but 75% of Sermo physicians polled believe this condition is linked to Covid-19, and 16% have recently treated pediatric patients exhibiting inflammatory symptoms. The majority polled, 69%, believe that schools should remain closed and camps canceled until we know more; however, 22% responded that schools in their community are already re-opening.
