Sermo, the largest online community exclusive to physicians, today announced that Tim Davenport has been appointed the company’s new CEO.

“We are excited and fortunate to have someone of Tim’s stature lead Sermo as social media and online communities become mainstream in healthcare,” said Jim Savage, Partner at Longworth Venture Partners and Sermo board member. “We are at a critical phase of the company’s growth, and Tim’s experience will be instrumental in further building on Sermo’s early success.”

Davenport has an extensive track record as an Internet, software and healthcare executive. Formerly the president of Revolution Health, a digital health company launched by AOL founder Steve Case, Davenport led the organization’s growth stage leading to its successful merger with Everyday Health. He has served as CEO of two public companies, Vastera and Best Software, the latter he led through a successful IPO fueled by the successful launch of early Internet products. Davenport holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS from Harvard College, and he currently sits on the Board of Directors of Serena Software.

“I am delighted to lead Sermo, an innovative company I have watched closely since it became the early leader in creating online community for physicians,” said Davenport. “Sermo has a most impressive cloud and mobile technology platform and a growing, vibrant community, making it a very unique company in U.S. healthcare, and one that can grow into one of the leading online health companies.”
