What should I tell my care team before I take this medication?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
- Breast cancer
- Heart disease
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Porphyria
- Unusual vaginal bleeding
- An unusual or allergic reaction to danazol, other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- Pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- Breast-feeding
What may interact with this medication?
Do not take this medication with any of the following:
- Cisapride
- Pimozide
- Ranolazine
This medication may also interact with the following:
- Carbamazepine
- Medications that treat or prevent blood clots, such as warfarin
This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Talk to your care team if you wish to become pregnant or think you might be pregnant. This medication can cause serious birth defects if taken during pregnancy. A barrier contraceptive, such as a condom or diaphragm, is recommended during treatment.
This medication can affect your menstrual cycle. You may stop having menstrual periods. These will return to normal within 2 to 3 months after you stop taking this medication.
What are the most serious risks of this medication?
This medicine can increase the risk of blood clots or having a stroke.
Taking this medicine for a long time could cause liver damage. If you need to take this medicine for a long time, your healthcare provider will monitor your liver function.
This medicine can increase pressure inside the skull and on the brain. Treatment is needed for this. If there is no treatment it can cause you to be blind. Call your healthcare provider immediately if you have headache, nausea, vomiting, and any changes in vision (like blurred, dimmed, or double vision).
This medication may cause serious birth defects if taken during pregnancy. Do not take this medication if you are pregnant.
